The Summer Lunch and Activities Coordinator will collaborate with the local school districtfs nutrition services program to provide a mobile Summer Lunch Program to serve children living in four low-income housing sites in East Multnomah County. In addition to providing a nutritious lunch to more than 150 children, the Summer Lunch and Activities Coordinator will create and implement daily activities for the children who participate in the program. The Summer Lunch Program and activities provide children from low-income families with the opportunity to be engaged over the summer and have daily nutritious meals for two months. The program is integral to stopping food insecurity in our communityfs youth, and research has shown that summer activities of any kind help maintain a childfs educational level between academic years. Be a part of this successful program as a Summer Lunch and Activities Coordinator! General Responsibilities (to include, but not limited to): 1. Coordinate the Summer Lunch Program with the local school districtfs nutrition services program that includes creating a delivery schedule to four different low-income housing sites. 2. Plan low-cost activities in collaboration with the Resident Services Coordinators. 3. Conduct outreach activities to publicize the Summer Lunch Program at four low-income housing sites 4. Recruit adult tenants who are interested in volunteering for the Summer Lunch Program. 5. Track youth and adult participation in activities. 6. Attend required Summer Lunch Program Training. 7. Complete general office duties related to position (mailings, filing, phone calls, and outreach activities). 8. Complete and submit all necessary LINKS AmeriCorps Program paperwork and reports in a timely manner. 9. Attend and complete LINKS AmeriCorps Program orientation and enrollment session. 10. Wear an appropriate LINKS identifier and required safety gear while performing service or attending official events. Requirements: 1. Applicants must have a personal vehicle and valid driverfs license. 2. LINKS members must be at least 17 years of age at the time of enrollment in the program. 3. U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident. 4. Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent, or commit to earning one prior to receiving an education award. 5. Ability to commit to the full term of service for which they are applying. 6. Submit to a criminal history background check and National Sex Offender Registry search. 7. Regular and reliable attendance. Preferred Qualifications: 1. An independent, self-motivated, creative and resourceful individual who enjoys working with a diverse group of children. 2. Experience and/or desire to work with school-age children. 3. Willingness to work in low-income environment. 4. Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills. 5. A cooperative manner and the ability to work as part of a team. Member Benefits Include: X A taxable living allowance totaling $1,000 which will be split into monthly increments over the service term. X Upon successful completion of a term of service, eligible members receive an education award of $1,000. The education award can be used to repay qualified student loans, for further education in an accredited institution of higher learning, vocational or for trade schools. The education award is taxed in the year that it is used. X Loan forbearance (after successful completion of a term of service, AmeriCorps will pay a portion of the accrued interest on qualified loans, which is taxable). Service Dates: Approx. June 16¡VAugust 10, 2008 Length of Term: 156 hours/month. 300 hours.
