Legal Aid Services of Oregon (LASO) is seeking a supervising attorney for its Hillsboro Office.

BACKGROUND: LASO is an effective, high quality legal services program with a mission to achieve justice for the low-income communities of Oregon. LASO’s fifteen offices include a statewide Migrant Program, a Native American Program, and regional offices throughout the state. The program provides training, support and the opportunity to work with experienced staff.

The Hillsboro Regional office is located 20 miles west of Portland in the Portland Metropolitan Area. It provides legal representation to the low-income and farmworker communities in Clatsop, Columbia, Tillamook, Washington, and Yamhill counties, a mostly rural area. The focus of the office is on cases involving income maintenance, housing, domestic relations and farmworker issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The supervising attorney will be responsible for supervising and mentoring assigned staff attorneys and paralegals; working with the Regional Director to create and maintain high-quality services with impact focus; and maintaining a varied poverty caseload.

QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent legal skills, proven interest in poverty law, 5 - 15 years experience and membership in the Oregon Bar, eligibility for reciprocity or willingness to take the next bar exam. Litigation and strong interpersonal skills also required. Supervisory experience and administrative law experience helpful. Strong preference for Spanish language ability or another language spoken in the client community.

SALARY/BENEFITS: Salary depends on experience. Additional compensation for bilingual ability. Full benefits package including health insurance, 401(k) plan and law school loan repayment program. Six weeks bar leave if needed
