The Mentor4Success program works one-on-one with high school students in the process of accessing training and education beyond high school. Mentors help students explore their college, financial aid and future career goals by assisting them with variety of activities; academic preparation, scholarship search and application, career exploration, college choice, and college application. Mentors and students will meet at three different locations, the Black United Fund of Oregon, Jefferson High School and Children First of Oregon.
Students!
You have to be a high school junior or senior in the 2012-2013 academic school year. We are looking for students that show desire and ability to want to continue their secondary education, positive attitude and a strong sense of commitment. You will meet with their mentors 2-4 hours per month during the entire school year. The Mentor4Success program will help you successfully apply for college, obtain financial aid, build a network, clear future goals and career plan.

Volunteers!
The student populations we are focusing on are; between the ages of 16-19, at-risk, underserved, low-income, and/or foster care youth in the Portland Metropolitan area. Experience is not required! There will be various training sessions and lots of resources available. We are looking for volunteers that have the desire and ability to work with teenage students, sensitivity to student challenges, strong sense of commitment and maintain a patient and enthusiastic attitude. Currently we are accepting volunteer applications. To apply to be a volunteer mentor please complete 1) the Mentor Application, 2) schedule an interview and 3) complete criminal background check form. Come help make a difference is the lives of the youth in our community.
